What is a Lipspeaker?
A lipspeaker silently repeats what a speaker says. A deaf person can then watch the lipspeaker and lipread what is being said more easily. Lipspeakers use clear lip patterns and, where necessary, facial expressions to show meaning. They can also fingerspell words if the lipreader asks them to.
Who would use a lipspeaker?
Usually a Hard of hearing or deafened person who’s first language is spoken English may prefer to use a lipspeaker, but the deaf person will need to be an expert lipreader.
